International travelers are required to adhere to new health and sanitation protocol

OCTOBER 1, 2020 As of October 1, Uganda’s borders have reopened, and Entebbe International Airport (EBB) has resumed operations for international airlines following a 6-month closure during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. All of Uganda’s national parks are open to international visitors as well. The reopening signals a return to business for Uganda’s tourism industry as international travelers are permitted to enter the country for leisure and business travel.

Compliance inspection for tourism facilities in Uganda kicks off

Kampala, Uganda. June 23, 2020. Uganda Tourism Board has today kicked off the inspection of hotels to ensure compliance of the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) put in place by the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities in the wake of COVID-19.

In my opening address at this year’s 5th Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) held in February, under the theme- Promoting Intra-African Travel, I told stakeholders that for Uganda to have a sustainable tourism sector, there was a need for us to rethink our tourism market with more focus on Africa and Uganda. Fast forward, around March, a month after POATE, Covid-19 spread across the world. Overnight, the tourism sector and economies across the world came to a halt.  

 

Uganda gears up for Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo; Local and regional exhibitors called to register

Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) is set to host the 5th annual Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE 2020); a tourism and travel trade exhibition which brings together regional and international tour operators, travel agents, destination marketing agencies and various players in the tourism trade to network and facilitate tourism business. The three day expo will run from 4-6 February 2020 and will be held at the Speke Resort in Munyonyo, Kampala.

UGANDA HEADS TO KENYA FOR TOURISM SHOWCASE

Kampala, Uganda – September 30, 2019. Team Uganda comprising of 18 tour operators and led by Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) is set to showcase Uganda’ tourism offerings at the 8th edition of the Magical Kenya Travel Expo (MKTE) to be held from the 2nd -4th October 2019, at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya.

The annual expo will attract over 170 exhibitors and 180 hosted buyers registered from 20 countries around the World; offering an attractive platform for Uganda to showcase.

ROGUE TOUR OPERATOR ARRESTED AS UGANDA TOURISM BOARD TIGHTENS ON QUALITY ASSURANCE WITHIN THE SECTOR

Kabale, Uganda. August 12, 2019 – Tourism police have today arrested a rogue tour operator accused of fleecing tourists of $21,500. Richard Tusasibwe, director of Gatatu Safaris Limited in Kigezi was today taken into custody after he was arrested by police at Arcadia Cottages in Kabale; near Lake Bunyonyi; where he had taken other tourists for a trip.
